Older portraits

Painting portraits is one of my greatest passions. If painting were a meal, portraits would be the most satisfying course. The distinctive character of each face gives every mark a sense of direction and purpose, making the process both intuitive and deeply engaging. I am fascinated by how the smallest shift in form, line or tone can suggest an entire human presence. A subtle change in the eyes, the curve of a mouth or the structure of a cheek can evoke emotion, memory and personality. The idea that an anatomical arrangement can communicate something so complex about the human condition is endlessly compelling.
